Hi everyone,
My family is raising a rescued starling who is doing well. He is about 4-5weeks old, just a few feathers when rescued, eyes opened the next day. He is doing well but has definitely imprinted on my husband especially. I have a few questions for people who have kept starlings as pets.
1.He seems to poop constantly. Is there any way to make him more regular? Or to get him to go in a certain area? He flies on top of your head when we walk into the laundry room so you can see the problem with the constant pooping.
2.Do you think it possible to keep him as an indoor/outdoor bird? He seems really needy right now. He definitely prefers us to be around him but it's just not possible to let him free fly through the house though he currently is free range in our laundry room. If we build a large cage for him will he adapt to being kept in it so that he could be in the other room with us? We would make sure he got exercise daily.
3.Any other advise anyone wants to give would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely, Vickie

Hi Vickie, First of all you are in for a treat! Starlings are fun birds! Unfortunately, the pooping anywhere and everywhere goes with the territory. You might try wearing a hat or a shirt when you are around your bird to protect your hair and clothing. Plastic shower curtains work well to cover large areas. An indoor/outdoor bird does not work well: Because your bird will bond with you and not realize he is a bird; so he won't have survival instincts. He would be very vulnerable when outdoors. A large cage will do very well keeping him safe and your belongings and self poop free.
